Ira Katz

Ira Katz

Founder/CEO

Ira started the company in 1978 and has built his company from a small neighborhood retail store into a national claim solutions provider.  Ira has founded CIS on the philosophy of honesty, integrity and keeping cost down for his customers. This is reflected in the reputation that CIS has earned of being the most complete and competitive claims solution provider in the United States.

For nearly 40 years, Ira has presented at hundreds of speaking engagements for the insurance industry providing solutions and services for many top executives.  Throughout the continual evolution of CIS into the leading National insurance service provider, Ira has remained committed to provide world class customer service and is continuously challenging his executive management team to develop new solutions and processes for the insurance industry.

Mike Cherven

COO/CFO

Mike is a critical member of the executive management team at CIS and is responsible for the overall operation of CIS. He over see’s the the financial, marketing, claims, technical, installation and consultating departments to ensure that all performance objectives are met and all new product/services are fiscally sound.

Prior to his employment with Commercial Insurance Service, his background included Regional Vice President for Wynn’s International, Director of Sales for Treatment Products LTD, and Regional Vice President with Dalbert Chemical. His extensive background and comprehension of the insurance industry has helped propel CIS as the leader in the insurance industry.

Don Marx

Vice President of Sales & Marketing

Don is responsible for delivering the companies specialized claims management solutions and programs.  Don uses his extensive insurance background to improve CIS’ visibility to the insurance industry.

Prior to joining CIS, Don was a physical damage manager with American Family Insurance in the Chicagoland area. In this position he provided team leadership and direction achieving efficient claim handling and quality customer service.

Preceding his role at American Family Insurance, Don was an agent for Farmers Insurance in Colorado Springs where he achieved several accolades for his robust sales.  Don was also with State Farm Insurance in Los Angles for many years where he was a physical damage adjuster evaluating vehicles as well as determining liability.

He has over 19 years of industry background that enables him to work as a team with members of the insurance industry.  Don holds a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Technology and aviation remains a passion as well as hunting and fishing.

Douglas Friedel

National Consultant Director

Douglas is CIS’ National Consultant Director. Due to his diverse background, Douglas wears many hats within CIS. His main responsibility includes managing all of CIS’ opererations; Commercial, Residential, Specialty, and Network Services to deliver quality customer service while obtaining credible information to deliver claim resolution to our clients. Other major duties performed are as an Analytical Data Analysis while providing Daily, Weekly, and Monthly reporting to CIS’ Executives and CIS’ clients.

Douglas began his career with CIS as a Commercial HVAC Consultant. He was quickly promoted to the Senior Consultant Manager position due to his hard work, dedication, and knowledge. After four years of being CIS’ Senior Consultant Manager, he was promoted to a Senior Management role as CIS’ National Consultant Director. In addition to his many promotions, Douglas achieved CIS’ great company award in 2014 as he became CIS’ Employee of the Year.

Prior to joining CIS, Douglas obtained his (MBA) Masters in Business and Administration from Keller Graduate School of Management. While obtaining his Masters degree, Douglas gained knowledge in corporate management practices in addition to practical skills that included data analysis, communications, and teamwork.

Prior to obtaining his MBA, Douglas worked for a restoration and reconstruction company as a Production Manager and Superintendent. As a Production Manager he led a team of estimators and superintendents on emergency remediation and restoration projects for insurance companies nationwide. Douglas has been in the insurance industry for over 10 years endeavoring to build on his knowledge within the insurance industry.

Jay Hill

Assistant VP of  Marketing

Prior to joining CIS, Jay was employed at Circuit City for eight years holding multiple management positions. He began his career at Circuit City as a Sales and Installation Manager in the car audio department.  His successes there quickly lead to promotional opportunities including: trainer, policy and procedure master and ultimately the retail Store Director.

Prior to working at Circuit City, Jay held a position as a Regional Director of Operations for Arlington Hospitality Management, Inc. In this role he oversaw nine hotels in Illinois, Iowa and Missouri and was responsible for sales, quality control, training and customer service.

Jay graduated Western Illinois University with a B.S. in Family and Consumer Sciences and he is also a Certified Claims Adjuster.

Matt Wood

Lead Technical Consultant 

Matt started his career in the HVACR industry in the 1990’s working for a heating, air conditioning and refrigeration service company. Matt’s knowledge base and skill set progressed as he transitioned in to a number of roles within the industry while working for a handful of HVACR contracting companies throughout the Chicagoland area. While working in the field he acquired numerous certifications including the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society, NATE, and ACCA.

In 2002 Matt decided to give something back to the industry and enter into the HVACR instructional field. He taught with Coyne College, Environmental Technical Institute and at ETI technical HVAC school. While working with ETI Matt was awarded the title of Certified Master HVACR Educator through HVAC Excellence. He was the first educator in Illinois and one of a select few in the United States to achieve this goal. It is a benchmark of academic excellence that many instructors strive for, but few attain.

Mike Scaglione

Senior Consultant Manager

Started with CIS in August 2005

– Claims Specialist handling automotive electronics claims

– U/L Lightning Certification

– Bachelor’s Degree from Lewis University studying Criminal Justice and Psychology

 

Started with CIS handling automotive electronics claims including car audio, video and security equipment. Eventually became the Auto Restoration Manager for the Chicagoland area specializing in automotive flood and smoke/fire damage, odor removal, and biohazard restoration. Transferred to the Commercial HVAC department handling large loss files including hail, copper theft, vandalism, fire and many other types of losses. Then promoted to current position as Commercial HVAC Manager leading our team of consultants in the Commercial HVAC Department.

Kevin Boysen

Lead Residential HVAC Consultant

Kevin oversees the Residential HVAC Department at CIS.  He has been working within the insurance industry for 7 years, including the HVAC and Automotive fields.  After joining CIS in 2013, Kevin was moved to his current management role in 2014 where he is responsible for product quality review, new hire and current employee training, department adherence to individual client guidelines performance metrics monitoring, client relations, supervisor escalation, employee development, as well as contributions to department and company growth and adaption.

Kevin has extensive training on HVAC equipment and diagnostics, including EPA Universal technician certification encompassing small appliance, high pressure, and low pressure refrigerant applications, North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification for service and installation and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) certification for diagnosing HVAC lightning and electrical surge damage.

Prior to entering the insurance industry, Kevin received his Bachelor’s Degree in Communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he also worked as a technical support specialist for the university’s Applied Technologies for Learning in the Arts and Sciences (ATLAS).

Tasha Holbrook

Accounting Manager

Tasha handles all of the accounting and financial transactions for CIS. She is responsible for maintaining thorough accounting practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. In addition to maintaining a magnitude of timely accounting deadlines, she is the administrative assistant to Ira Katz, President and CEO and Mike Cherven, VP and COO and collaborates with our CPA’s to ensure accurate and timely year end audits. Tasha is also acting payroll/human resources liaison and maintains all personnel files and attendance records for CIS employees.

Prior to joining CIS, Tasha was the Accounting Manager for an international paper distributor located in Elmhurst, IL. for 12 years. She has attended an undergraduate program at St. Xavier University and holds various Accounting Certificates, including Intermediate Accounting I-III, and Financial Accounting. She is currently attending a Quick Books Pro Business certification course.

Tasha is an active volunteer for DuPage County Habitat for Humanity, as well as many local animal rescues. She is also actively involved with a non for profit organization based in Los Angeles, CA. called One Heart for Hope, which provides food, shelter, education, and medical assistance to the homeless children of the Philippines.

 

 

 

Paul Gillespie

Commercial Claim Quality Specialist

Paul began his HVAC career in 1994 in Chicago starting as an installer’s helper and since then has held positions within the HVAC industry as a field technician, HVAC distribution management, and Building engineer. His years in the HVAC industry has allowed Paul to obtain numerous years of industry training and hold certifications with RSES Chicago Chapter, NATE, EPA 608 Universal Certification and UL HVAC Diagnosing Lightning and Electrical Surge Failures.

Paul’s current position within the organization is to assist policyholders who seek out CIS services and provide them with superior guidance and management of their replacement process.

Ramon Delgado 

Manager of Specialty Equipment/Electronics  division

Started with CIS in May of 2007

– Specialty commercial / residential electronic equipment claims consultant

– Residential HVAC claims consultant

– Automotive electronics claims consultant

– UL certification for HVAC with respect to diagnosing lightning and electrical surge failures

Ramon began his career in electronics of over 10 years in the field of custom home and car audio/video design.  Later, he worked as a plant supervisor of an automotive wheel remanufacturing company where he oversaw / managed the day/night production staff, maintained all plant heavy duty equipment, all administrative and advertising duties.  Transitioning to CIS, Ramon has served our clients well through thousands of claims in varied fields of discipline, providing consistent and competent service enabling our clients to better find accurate and appropriate resolve regarding their claims.

Nestor Silva

Manager of Network Services – National

Nestor is responsible for managing CIS’ industry leading, network of qualified contractors. Nestor is an immensely driven individual who constructed a department in order to utilize experienced, efficient, and professional contractors while providing industry leading turn-around time for CIS’ clients and their policy holders.

With more than 5 years of experience throughout the insurance industry in both property and automotive damage claim consultation, Nestor thrives on producing prompt & accurate results with our clients best interests in mind. His vast experience in vendor integration, process & procedural implementation, and customer service allows Nestor to utilize his skill set and industry knowledge in order to cultivate success. Nestor leads by example and his positive attitude has proved to maximize his team member’s productivity. With this experience, Nestor looks to continue to grow as a leader in an ever evolving industry.

Deanna Huber

Office Manager

Deanna is the office manager at CIS.    Her responsibilities include managing our customer service department, billing and collections.  Prior to her career at CIS, Deanna worked as  an assistant Office Coordinator for 6 years in the Medical field working for Illinois Bone & Joint in the physical Therapy department.  Deanna specialized in clerical services scheduling appointment and working in collections.  Deanna takes her customer service role seriously, and in 2012 was certified in customer service excellence.

Deanna has been an integral part of CIS working in many different roles throughout her career.  She has worked in our customer service department, accounting department, and now as an office manager.  She enjoys spending time with her close family and her husband.

Phil Scarimbolo

National Project Manager

Phil has been in the HVAC/R industry for over 8 years. He holds an Associates Degree in Applied Science from Coyne College in Chicago. Phil has held positions as a residential and light commercial service and installation technician as well as in home comfort sales. Phil then transitioned into wholesale HVAC/R distribution and management for a leading HVAC/R distributor in the Chicagoland area. Phil is a certified EPA testing proctor and holds certifications with NATE, EPA, and HARDI organizations.
